I feel way in over my head and would love some advice on where to get started. I know I should learn resolume, but I don't know if I'd be getting too far ahead of myself if I can't make my own graphics to start? Or is that a whole other area of expertise that some people are lucky enough to have cultivated prior to learning resolume.

(And yes, I'm aware that VDMX is OSX only, including the limitations that come with the OS/hardware.) I would like to know more opinions from people who have experience working with both, because maybe I'm missing some fundamental design insights. There's some features I really like though column select is beautiful, and allows you to think in two dimensional storylines, arena has better numerical inputs, and wire is beautifully part of the eco system.

Also, arena is not comparable imo to madmapper, and neither is wire to touchdesigner. Now that I had to learn up on Resolume in order to support my crew, I became even more convinced. But, I also always felt that I didn't know enough about Resolume to have a funded opinion about it. I've always felt strongly that Resolume (even though it's the current standard) is much more limited compared to VDMX. One of them uses Resolume Arena, the other one VDMX + madmapper. I'm currently writing this post on the second day of a four day big festival where I manage a team of VJs for the two main stages.

I've been working with VDMX for over a decade, since this day I still admire this piece of software and continue to find new uses for it.
